Reading -penguins (researching a topic) -long e -word family -ig -living and non-living things Math -addition strategies We are in the middle of cold and flu season, please remind your child to wash their hands frequently and to use a tissue when needed. If your child is not feeling well or has a fever, please keep your child at home to avoid spreading germs and illness. Children need to be fever free for at least 24 hours (without meds) before returning to school. Our Valentine's Day card exchange will be on February 13th. Please bring a card for each child in our class. We have 20 children in our class. Please continue to send a healthy snack each day labeled with your child's name. Please do not send candy or very messy snacks. Also, we only drink water in the classroom. If your child does not know how to tie his or her shoes, please begin practicing this very important skill at home. :) Have a great weekend!

Next week we will cover the following skills:
Reading -Groundhog's Day -long o -sight word: one -word family: -ip -goods and services -writing to persuade -story elements Math -measurement (length, height, weight, capacity) reading and creating graphs On Monday, we will celebrate the 100th day of school! Children are encouraged to dress up like they are 100 years old!! We will do various activities throughout the day with the number 100. It will be a fun day! We will celebrate Valentine's Day on Feb. 13th with a card exchange. If your child participates, please send a card for each child in our class. We have 20 children. Since the weather has been colder, please make sure your child wears a jacket to school each day. Since we are getting closer to first grade, please have your child practice tying his or her shoes. This is a very important skill in order for your child to become more independent. Earlier in the week, an email from Dolvin concerning sickness was sent. If your child has a fever or is not feeling well, please keep them at home until they feel well again and are fever-free for at least 24 hours. We are encouraging children to wash their hands throughout the day in order to stop the spread of germs. Thank you very much for the cards for my birthday, lunch, and the books for our classroom. Reading -long i words -sight word: not -word family - in -Jan Brett -motion Math -measurement (length, weight, capacity) On Monday, January 27th, we will celebrate the 100th day of school! It will be a fun day all about the number 100. Children are welcome to dress up like they are 100 years old. Maybe they will even see some 100 year old teachers on this special day! We will celebrate Valentine's Day with a card exchange on Feb. 13th. If your child participates, please bring a card for everyone. We have 20 students in our class. Attaching candy to the card will be fine. However, we will not have a Valentine's Day party. Report cards and GKIDS reports will come home today. Please sign the envelope and return it on Tuesday. It will be cold again next week. Please make sure your child wears a jacket to school each day. Scholastic Book Orders were sent home yesterday. There are some great books at great prices included. Please place all orders by next Friday. When you order books, we earn free books for our classroom. It is a win-win for everyone! There will not be school on Monday because it is MLK Day. Reading -long a words -main idea -it word family -MLK Math -measurement -comparing lengths After the break, we welcomed a new student to our class! Welcome Aleina! We love having her in our class and getting to know her better. We now have 20 students in our class. Please continue to have your child read aloud to you each night. The extra practice makes a huge difference in your child's ability to read fluently and comprehend. A new sign up for the Discovery Lab and Mystery Reader were sent out. Be sure to look for it and sign up if you are interested. Please make sure that you are an approved volunteer before you sign up. There is no school on Monday, January 20th, due to the MLK holiday. Enjoy the rainy week ahead. Happy New Year and welcome back to the second semester of Kindergarten! I hope everyone had a restful 2 weeks and enjoyed time with family and friends!

Reading -sight word: can -word family: -est -review of short vowels -CVC words -story elements -New Year's Math -Measurement (length and comparing length using shorter/taller) We will begin the second semester with a PBIS presentation in order to review Dolvin expectations. Please reinforce the importance of following directions and being a good citizen at home. The January Homework Choice Board will come home on Monday. Please continue to read aloud with your child each night and ask them comprehension questions. Please practice writing a few sentences on a topic. Encourage your child to write a few sentences independently without any assistance. Continue to review the sight words and point them out any time you see them.
