Happy Weekend! I hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful long weekend! We had another great week in Kindergarten. We welcomed 4 new friends from Ms. Myers’ class to our class this week. We love that they joined us!
We worked on the letters c and o. We also read a book and sorted events by if they happened or did not happen in the story. We did an experiment to find out which objects sink and which float. We continued to work on learning our shapes and identified which shapes are 2D and 3D. We all looked wonderful for Picture Day on Thursday. We loved receiving the Strong4Life water bottles and notebooks on Friday. The children brought home shape flashcards. Please use these cards to review all of our shapes. We will soon do an assessment on identifying these shapes. You can also use the shape cards to sort the shapes by different characteristics (number of sides, 2D/3D, etc). Please continue to help your child learn his or her sight words. Return the sight words to school when your child is ready in order for Ms. Boucard to test the words. Next week we will go to the Media Center to preview books from the Book Fair. We will make a list of books we are interested in. Children will have the opportunity to buy books the following week. Next week, we will focus on the following skills: Reading: letters d and a, short a words, retelling a story, story elements, rhyming words Writing: personal narratives, sounding out words Social Studies: Labor Day Math: review of all 2D and 3D shapes, drawing and making shapes, comparing shapes, counting to 100 Please remember that there is no school on Monday due to Labor Day. Thank you for sharing your wonderful children with us! Wow! What a wonderful week we had in Kindergarten! We continued to practice our PBIS expectations and routines. We learned more about syllables, letters and their sounds, and story elements. We continued to practice identifying rhyming words. After reading the book, Clark the Shark, we read a non-fiction book about sharks and talked about how they are the same and different. Our favorite facts about sharks definitely included the amount of teeth a shark has in its mouth. In math, we continued to identify different shapes and pointed these shapes out in our environment. In science, we compared the characteristics of different objects and grouped them.
Next week, we will cover the following skills: Reading: letters c and o, short o words, story elements, retelling a story Writing: narrative writing, handwriting Science: sink/float Math: 2D and 3D shapes, analyzing and comparing shapes, sorting shapes by 2D and 3D, counting to 100 On Monday, we will begin our Kindergarten Sight Word program. The first sight word card of 10 words will be sent home with each student. Please practice these 10 words with your child until they are able to fluently read the words without having to sound them out. Words will be tested out of order and not always on the colored card. Once your child knows all 10 words well and is able to read the words in different settings, please send the card back to school so that Mrs. Boucard can test the words. If your child has mastered all 10 words on the card, a new card will be sent home. Please continue to review all words each night. Point the sight words out in books, your home, or anywhere else where your child may see these words. Picture Day is on Thursday, September 2nd. All students will have their picture taken on this day. This picture will be used in the yearbook. Order forms for pictures were sent home a few days ago. If you plan to order pictures, please either send the form back or order online. Please continue to send a healthy snack, a filled water bottle, and an extra mask to school each day. It will be a great week in Kindergarten! If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to us. Happy Weekend, Families!

We continue to practice our PBIS school rules and we are all earing Bucket Stickers for making good choices throughout the day. We practiced identifying and coming up with rhyming words and writing our names with only the first letter capitalized. We learned more about various 2D shapes and their attributes. We continued with Number Talks and learned more about ten frames, place value, and the value of pennies and dimes. Next week we will cover the following topics: Reading: letter identification, syllables, retelling a story, story elements, fiction and non-fiction Writing: handwriting, narrative writing Math: solid shapes (3D) such as sphere, cube, cone, cylinder, rectangular prism, counting to 100 by ones and tens Science: physical properties/attributes of materials Beginning on Monday, we will eat lunch 10 minutes earlier. Due to this change, we will now have our snacks in the afternoons, after specials. Please be sure that your child eats breakfast each morning since we will no longer have a morning snack time. Curriculum Night will now be virtual. It will be posted on the Dolvin website on Thursday. If after viewing the slideshow, you have any questions, please reach out to us. Please remember to pack an extra mask for your child in case a new one is needed. If your child is out due to illness, please send us an email to let us know.
