Welcome Anna! We are so glad that she joined our class. We now have 21 students. On Tuesday, January 22, we will celebrate the 100th day of school. Our day will be filled with a lot of fun activities involving the number 100. Everyone is encouraged to dress up like they are 100 years old! Please don’t forget your tennis shoes since we do have PE on Tuesdays. The Six Flags reading logs are due on January 31. Read for at least 360 minutes and earn a free ticket to Six Flags! Report cards and GKIDS reports are going home this afternoon. Please review both reports and send the signed envelope back to school on Monday. International Day is coming on February 6. Volunteers are needed in order to make this day a success. Please see the attached flyer for more information. Calling all authors! • Please enter the Young Georgia Authors Competition! Unlike many writing competitions, the YGA does not provide a prompt to which students must respond, or provide any other boundaries to their genre choice or creativity beyond 1900 words. Entries may include: o Short Stories o Poetry o Essays/Literary Criticism/Analysis o Journalism o Academic/Research Reports o Personal Narratives o Any Other Original Student Writing • All entries must be the students’ original work (this includes all edits and revisions) and must be typed or handwritten on 8.5x11 inch paper (exceptions may be made for grades K and 1). Print on one side of the paper only. • The maximum length is 1900 words. If typed, font must be no smaller than 12 point and writing must be doubled spaced. If your submission nears the 1900 word maximum, please include a word count. • Dictated stories must follow the approved state testing accommodation guidelines for dictation. • Do not bind, make a cover for, laminate, or otherwise alter the original paper on which the entry is written. Use paper clips or binder clips. Do not use staples. • The original student work and the copy must have the name of the student and the student’s school removed. • Record the student’s initials, grade, and RESA district number at the top and center of each page of the original copy in the following manner: (Our RESA number is 4) Attach a fully completed entry form for each submission (forms are online at https://goo.gl/ffrZnS ) Entries are due to the Curriculum Support Teacher, Emily Davis, by Tuesday February 18th, 2019.
