Wow! What a wonderful week we had in Kindergarten! We continued to practice our PBIS expectations and routines. We learned more about syllables, letters and their sounds, and story elements. We continued to practice identifying rhyming words. After reading the book, Clark the Shark, we read a non-fiction book about sharks and talked about how they are the same and different. Our favorite facts about sharks definitely included the amount of teeth a shark has in its mouth. In math, we continued to identify different shapes and pointed these shapes out in our environment. In science, we compared the characteristics of different objects and grouped them.
Next week, we will cover the following skills: Reading: letters c and o, short o words, story elements, retelling a story Writing: narrative writing, handwriting Science: sink/float Math: 2D and 3D shapes, analyzing and comparing shapes, sorting shapes by 2D and 3D, counting to 100 On Monday, we will begin our Kindergarten Sight Word program. The first sight word card of 10 words will be sent home with each student. Please practice these 10 words with your child until they are able to fluently read the words without having to sound them out. Words will be tested out of order and not always on the colored card. Once your child knows all 10 words well and is able to read the words in different settings, please send the card back to school so that Mrs. Boucard can test the words. If your child has mastered all 10 words on the card, a new card will be sent home. Please continue to review all words each night. Point the sight words out in books, your home, or anywhere else where your child may see these words. Picture Day is on Thursday, September 2nd. All students will have their picture taken on this day. This picture will be used in the yearbook. Order forms for pictures were sent home a few days ago. If you plan to order pictures, please either send the form back or order online. Please continue to send a healthy snack, a filled water bottle, and an extra mask to school each day. It will be a great week in Kindergarten! If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to us.
